Activities

According to the Survey on the Occupational Safety and Health of Construction Workers, around 45 percent of construction workers smoke regularly and a quarter of them smoke at work. The survey also found that the injury rate of smokers was 1.39 times higher than that of non-smokers. Hong Kong Council on Smoking and Health organizes a tailored programme “Smoke-free Construction Force” with full support of Construction Industry Council, Hong Kong Construction Association, Hong Kong Construction Industry Employees General Union and Hong Kong General Building Contractors Association to spread smoke-free messages among the construction industry.   "Smoke-free Construction Force" was held from July 2016 to February 2017. COSH provided health talks, smoking cessation service referrals and collaterals to assist companies of the industry in promoting smoke-free culture and encouraging smoking cessation to safeguard employee's occupational safety and health. All construction organizations, companies and sites were welcomed to join the Force and awarded a certificate. Outstanding participants were commemorated for their efforts at the Awards Presentation Ceremony of “Hong Kong Smoke-free Leading Company Awards 2016” on 27 February 2017.
